Electric Pressure Cooker
It has been said the electric pressure cooker is not the same as your Grandmothers. I remember when I was young I remember the pressure cooker Grandma had. It went on top of the stove and resembled a technological marvel from the 1800's! Several knobs locked on the lid and the gauge was standing tall ready to red line just before the thing blew! At least that's what i thought.
Surprisingly, a lot of you out there agree with me. So when I bought my electric pressure cooker just before Christmas last year i just had to stop by my mothers house and she went on a 5 minute tirade about how scared she was of pressure cookers. I did my 15 minute infomercial to sell her on the fact that electric pressure cookers are completely safe and then I demonstrated it for her with a pot of chicken and dumplings. Which really worked out great because she just so happened to have all the ingredients I needed and, I was able to make it actually look like I was showing her how great it was and not just simply getting free food :)
In case you are wondering I used a recipe that a very nice lady had put on you tube so I don't want to take credit for that I will however post the link here so it opens in another tab. I think I will label it .... Nice ladies chicken and dumpling recipe on you tube.
In case you are wondering most manufacturers offer 4, 6 and 10 quart models. I purchased the 6 quart and for my Family of 4 it is perfect.
Cook Frozen Dinners in no time!
We love the lasagna frozen entrees (the ones that sell for about $11 and come in a foil container. I know it says to put in the oven BUT, I'm a rebel! I get out the electric knife and cut the frozen dinner in two. I pour 5 ounces of water into the pressure cooker and then put the lasagna in the pot with a can of tomato paste. I set the pressure on 80 (This link will explain all about what the pressure numbers mean). 80 will be about 15 pounds of pressure I can tell you that after 25 minutes it is piping hot internal temperature of over 180(f)! My personal pressure cooker is a Power Pro XL and it is terrific! It also has a slow cooking option so it's like getting a crock pot, slow cooker, pressure cooker all in one!
